Touch: the overlooked sense!
Touch: The overlooked sense!
Close your eyes and try to imagine you are blind, easy enough? Now put fingers or plugs in ears and try to imagine being deaf, still possible? Yes, of course. Now, try imagining, you can not feel the touch. Can you do that? Impossible, right?
This is because we can’t be without this sense. Right now, you are sitting or standing. And thus, you are touching a floor or chain in one way or another. The books you read, the pen used for writing, the remote control you use to handle, and so on. Although we touch things, we tend to ignore this sense.
Touch can be received by brain in two types- one that gives facts about where you are, weather, movements, etc. The other one is the touch that conveys emotions. We get a touch in the form of a comforting hug, the way mother holds her child and it goes on till sexual touches. We also have senses to locate where we feel hurt or pain by the touch.
So you can imagine a leaf and you will be ok even if you can not see it. You can smell a rose and you will be able to recognize it without the sight. But if you think of getting pricked by a thorn. Can you describe this feeling in any other way?
A scientist says that our brain remembers touch. That is, if your lover caresses your arm with a finger. It’s a nice feeling, a feeling that you wish stays with you. So, your brain registers it. And when you are in heated argument and you feel the same caresses, you tend to calm down. Isn’t that amazing?
